Sneaky Concepts
COMPREHEND WITH CAUTION…
My intention is to share what made me chuckle today. If you didn’t find it amusing, I apologize in advance.
God is so great that the greatness precludes existence —Raimundo Panikkar, The Silence of God: The Answer of the Budda (1989)
It is the final proof that God’s omnipotence that he need not exist in order to save us —Reverend Mackerel (1958) on Mackerel Plaza by Peter DeVries
PHILOSOPHERS AT WORK
Gottlob Frege:
The concept HORSE is not a concept.
Every philosopher:
The concept HORSE is not a horse!
USE MENTION ERROR
God is what we really would call a metaphor.
I believe in metaphors!
So I can [say I] believe in God!
KAREN ARMSTRONG
1.God is no being at all.
(compared with)
2. No being at all is God.
1 is sophisticated theology.
2 is crude atheism.
They are logically equivalent.
The transparency of theology.
3. God is being itself.
4. God is the God beyond God.
…philosophical theology is a pseudo-sophisticated mode of game… with willfull use of obscurity… —Dan Dennett AAI 2009

THE PERFECT CONCEPTS
(again, for the sake of amusement and absurdity…)
Undoubtedly, people claim that God is PERFECT.
Rightfully, people claim that practice makes PERFECT.
Equally, people claim that nothing is PERFECT.
Metaphor is used to compare two entities. You can compare apples to apples etc, but how can you compare GOD? God ain’t a metaphor.
Video too long. >.<
love,
I believe it was an example of use-mention error. Karen Armstrong wrote a book with a title “History of God.”
:)
At least you’re not out there breaking more hearts :)
